Shipping mounts or plates on the motor body are made to protect
the motor during shipping. These should be removed before
you attached the blade holders.

When shopping for a Hampton Bay ceiling fan, keep the following
definitions in minds.
TRI-MOUNT refers to a fan capable of a flush mount, long down
rod and short down rod installation.
DUAL-MOUNT refers to a long down rod or short down rod
installation (not capable of a flush mount installation)
This definition may differ from one brand to another.

Motor runs but there is a humming noise (for 3-speed Pull Chain
model). Some fans are sensitive to variable speed
controls. Replace it with a 3- or 4-speed click position
fan control.
>
Motor hums but blades are not moving. For fans with a Pull
Chain motor speed switch, move the reverse switch up and down or
side to side several times. This can clean up the contacts
on the connection.

To balance the fan, patience is needed. Some "trial and
error" is necessary. Try these hints.
(1) Tighten all screws from the mounting bracket, rod, blade
holders and blades before starting the procedure.
(2) Turn the fan on to the speed at which the wobble is the
greatest and note the amount of vibration.
(3) Turn the fan off and wait until it comes to a complete stop.
Do not force it to stop. Put a testing clip on one blade
in the middle of the trailing edge. Turn the fan on and
see if the wobble increased or decreased. Remove the
testing clip and repeat Step 3 on all other blades noting the
improvements.
(4) On the blade that gave the best results (removed or reduced
the wobble), move the clip at one inch increments until the
wobble is removed, or you reach the tip of the blade.
Replace the testing clip with the "weight" in the middle of the
blade where the clip is positioned.
(5) Repeat Steps 2-4 if a smaller wobble still exists.
Most wobbling fans require less than two weights.

For REMOTE CONTROL FANS, you cannot use with any variable speed
or slide wall switches. The remote control function must
be used with on & off switch outlets only.
>
For fans that have regular light bulbs, apply a small amount of
petroleum jelly around the threads of the bulb so the lights can
be more easily removed later.

After market extension down rods usually come with threads on
the ends. However, the original factory rod has no threads
on the ends. These after market down rods may cause a
loose fit. To aid this, put electrical tape around the
threads and poke holes in the tape for the locking pin to go
through. This may reduce the gap and provide a better fit.
